Insulate Attic No Access

Build a fiberglass pillow stack insulation batts on top of the duct tape so they extend about 1 in.

Maybe i could remove a light fixture and stick my iphone up past the electrical boxand take a photo. It has gable vents on either end but i cannot remove them or see into them to see if there s any insulation in the attic or how much. That reminds me of a home we insulated about 10 years ago. Once the opening has been sealed it can be further insulated by building a foam box in the attic to enclose the stairs.

So what to do. Cut out two pieces of rigid foam board that are 1 4 inch smaller than the hatch so homeowners can slide the attic access panel open easily. Begin by checking to see if the attic stairs close tightly then apply self adhesive foam weather stripping around the perimeter where the plywood door meets the frame except on the hinge end. Then to really seal the attic access up tight says olson lay fiberglass batt insulation on the inside of the hatch or door and wrap it up tight like a christmas present photo 3.

There are no access hatches not on the closets or anywhere. In fact there was no attic access. First install foam weather stripping on the inside of the trim or directly onto the hatch. Most often just a scrap piece of plywood or drywall is cut somewhat close to the correct size and placed in the opening resting on a strip of molding.

This creates an insulated attic access door. Otherwise you have provided easy access for theft through the attic access openings of any adjacent units. Then secure the pillow with the duct tape. Builders don t always insulate and seal the attic access opening cover but it certainly should be added for energy savings.

Don t worry you don t need to fill your entire attic with insulation. 4 if the house is mid century modern style with a flat or shed roof there may be no attic. Be aware that if you decide to add an attic access hatch or fold down ladder it should be lockable. You can insulate the hatch door while you re inside the attic or slide the door out and do it more comfortably on a tarp outside.

This house had rectangular roof vents roof jacks that went along about 2 feet below the ridge of the roof spaced about every 10 feet or so.
