When all the panels are cut treat them with a stain conditioner image 1 which will help the wood absorb the stain evenly. Secure the paneling to the wall with panel adhesive and finishing nails. The first step in how to install paneling is to remove all wall plates outlets and any nails in the wall. Position the panel on the wall leaving a 1 4 inch space at the bottom and drive the four nails partway into the wall.

If the corner isn t straight and plumb you ll see gaps. For best results set the paneling in the room for a few days before you install it. This will allow it to adjust to the humidity in a room. From an inside corner on a wall where you wish to start installing 4 foot wide panels.

Pull the bottom edge of the panel about 6 inches from the wall and push a block behind the sheet. This will allow natural light into the a small secluded. Pull the panel away from the wall and let the adhesive become tacky. Tack a full panel in place with one long edge aligned with the plumb mark then check to see how the opposite edge fits into the corner.

Place the panel on the wall and press it into the adhesive. Stain the panels by applying them with a good quality brush following the grain image 2 and then wiping off the excess with a rag. Think your wood paneling is dated. Gently remove any crown moulding baseboards and trim you plan on using again.

Using a level mark a plumb line 48 in. It takes approximately 15 minutes for the conditioner to dry so by the time you finish the last panel the others are ready to stain.
